The Four Columns

The foundation of our faith is knowledge. Yog-Sothoth is the Gate, the keeper of the most eldritch knowledge, which is why we venerate him. But there is more to knowledge than the arcane secrets known to Him, who is the opener of the way. There is a world of knowledge around us and it is our sacred duty to learn as much of it as possible in our lifetime.

Upon the foundation of knowledge rise four columns. They represent the educational pursuits that members of the Fane are expected to attend.

The first column is the normal sciences. These include biology, physics, astronomy and chemistry. Members of the Fane need not be a master of any, but should have a general understanding of all of the normal sciences as they are necessary for a complete understanding of the world as we perceive it.

The second column is the paranormal sciences. This includes knowledge of the Outer Gods and Great Old Ones, witchcraft, supernatural manifestations, etc. Having an open mind to these studies prepares one for the worlds that are beyond our regular perception.

The third column is for history. We must at all times remember that Yog-Sothoth is the past, present and future. To understand the present and prepare for the future, we must know and understand the events of the past.

The fourth column is the arts. Whether it be painting, sculpture, music or writing, all members of the Fane are encouraged to develop and artistic outlet. It is well-known that Outer Gods use the arts as a conduit to communicate with our plane and by participating in them, you signal your desire to be a vessel.
