Lessons from Celephaïs

My dear siblings of the Fane, we gather today under Bokrug’s moon to consider the nature of patience and perseverance. Kuranes, Lord of the valley of Ooth-Nargai, exemplifies aspects of our journey that we shall take to heart. –

Persistent Seeking –

The first lesson we can learn from Kuranes is to persistently seek what we actually desire. There are so many forces seeking to capture our attention in this world. It’s so easy to allow ourselves to get caught up in the grit and dirty realism of everything around us. –

We who are wise know that we must master our own focus. Kuranes sought only beauty in life, even as everyone around him called him childish and foolish. Kuranes followed his heart. We are called in the same way to shed the influences that do not serve us. We must persistently choose to focus on our calling in the multiverse, so that we are not blinded and blunted by meaningless convenience. –

Consistent Seeking –

The second lesson we can learn from Kuranes is to remain consistent in our practice. Sometimes the Dreamlands shift, just as the waking universe around us can shift. This is no excuse to fall away into despair. We honor no one by giving up on our deepest calling. Kuranes was caught by these sudden shifts and lost his way to Celephaïs more than once, but never stopped trying to get back. –

We who are wise know the value of consistent praxis. Dreaming and learning and thinking are all skills that atrophy if we don’t use them. The true Will of our hearts can be consumed by the ravenous trivialities around us. We must consciously and consistently choose to follow the precepts of Yog-Sothoth. This is not an easy path. We can get ourselves into a pattern of practice, habits which help keep our momentum up. We are not set upon this path to take the easy, realistic, materialistic way out. We are here to seek the beautiful, mystical truths of this fragile Dream. –

Mindful Seeking –

The third lesson we can learn from Kuranes is to understand that there are limits to what we can accomplish alone. After many years of faithfully and persistently trying to return to Celephaïs, eventually his waking life crumbled. Penniless, alone, and turned out from his home, even the great Dreamer Kuranes reached the end of what he could do. In this moment, the Dreamlands reached out to bring Kuranes to his rightful home. –

We who are wise know that we are not meant to travel alone. Not one of us is strong enough to withstand the shifts of the Dreamlands alone, nor the roil of the waking world alone. We will reach the end of our strength. What sets us apart is our support for one another in these moments. In dreams and in waking life, we are the honor guard for one another, sent to bring each of us to our rightful places in Eternity.

We are meant to lend our strength to one another in times of need.
